Hygge

Denmark is rated as the happiest country in the world - time and again. It is worth knowing what these guys are doing differently. What is their secret?

Well, as it turns out, it's Hygge - pronounced Hooga! It is a very loosely defined word for it means many things. But basically it means a way of life - the danish way towards happiness. In one sentence, Hygge means creating a warm atmosphere and enjoying the good things in life with good people. The warm glow of candlelight is hygge. Friends and family - that's hygge too. There is nothing more hygge than simply catching up together with friends and discussing the big and small things in life. Some other hygge examples are picnics in the park, barbecues with friends, outdoor concerts, street festivals and bike rides. However, hygge in your home can be a warm and cosy room full of candles, bright colors, not messy, good happy people laughing, loving and merry making.

Basically, Hygge is a philosophy, a way of life that has helped Danes understand the importance of simplicity. They let the time to unwind and slow down the pace of life. Its simply about living the present moment and enjoying the little things with family and friends.
